The RDS Scintillometer is a dual-purpose gamma-radiation monitor that measures the external gamma count rate (c/s) and the external gamma dose rate (Sv/h) using a 1″ × 1″ NaI(Tl) scintillation crystal. The scintillometer is used by geologists to assess a gamma count-rate “signature” of uranium mineralisation and the count rate of uranium ore cores and ore-chip samples. It also offers first-level radiation-protection information: the geologist can estimate personal gamma-radiation dose based on the measured external gamma dose rate.
The gamma count rate (c/s) is displayed every second or every ten seconds. An external knob switches the RDS Scintillometer on and engages the 1-second or 10-second counting interval. A buzzer can be engaged or disengaged by a small panel switch behind the bracket under the belt clip.
