Dr Jiri Kvasnicka has developed a methodology for measuring the unattached fraction of radon progeny using the Kodak LR-115 type-2 nuclear-track detector. The research was published with two colleagues — Dr Vladimir Zdimal and Allan Seini — in the scientific journal Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A.
The technique provides superior accuracy when assessing occupational and public radiation-exposure risks from inhaled radon decay products, particularly in environments where the unattached fraction contributes a disproportionate share of the total dose.
